Change

I have been presented with the opportunity to join BlogHer’s ad network which would mean having advertising on my little blog here. I’m not entirely sure about the details of it yet, but I thought I’d let you know to expect that soon. I can tell you, there will be one ad in the sidebar, and I think one banner ad, although, none of that is definite yet. Needless to say, it’s my hope that you will continue to read despite this change. I can assure you that the content of my blog will not be influenced in any way by the ads.

As you are likely aware if you keep up with me at all, I’m not working right now Because of that, taking care of my critters and blogging have become my “jobs” – much to Jason’s dismay since he’d like my “job” to be cleaning our house and getting my crap organized. Anyhoo, the critters and the blog are the reason I still get up at 8AM most everyday, as opposed to sleeping in until noon which would be the likely alternative scenario. Generally speaking, I try to put considerable time into writing my posts, although between the trip to Texas and some other things, I’ve slacked some, and the overall content hasn’t quite met my standards. Since I normally try to put a fair bit of time into it, and since I’m not gainfully employed, I’m going to take advantage of this opportunity. I haven’t the slightest idea what kind of revenue this advertising will generate. I’m pretty confident I won’t be posting about any new cars or tropical vacations as a result of it, however, if it helps pay a bill, or gives us a few extra dollars to go see a movie, I won’t turn my nose up at that.

I do plan to give the blog a slight face-lift in the near future, mostly because my sidebar is a wee crammed, and adding advertising will further clutter it. Also, I know people with low resolution have had issues viewing images, so in the process of changing a few things, I hope to rectify that problem. Advertising or not, my content is my content though, and I want you to feel confident that those aforementioned standards of mine won’t be changing as a result of this. I’m grateful to everyone who takes time to read and comment, especially given that there’s an overwhelming variety of blogs and social networking sites from which to choose, so if you have any specific concerns, I hope you’ll let me know.

  2. I’ll still be reading :) I am a pro at blocking out ads.

Or perhaps I’m in denial and all those ads are influencing me at a subconscious level. But since I don’t know about it, I’ll still be reading :)

  4. I’m curious to find out how their ad revenue is generated. Per click to your blog? Per click on their ads? Is it based just on how awesome you are? If it’s door number 3 then you should be set for life :)

  6. Hey there – I read your blog, have a newly diagnosed Type 1 daughter (age 6), live outside Philly and work in the city, and like your posts. I would like to just add one comment in that the purple background, with white print, makes it sometimes hard for me to read. I’m not sure if others have the problem too, but actually I get a wee bit dizzy if I stay too long and read too much on your site. Maybe it’s just me, but I thought I would throw that out there. Thanks for all your postings, they are very good and informative.

  7. So I’m a little late to comment…

But, I say that even if it brings in enough to buy a Diet Coke or three – go for it!
